X lets a credited photo reshare pay both sides — maker and sharer

A new Post photo option overlays credit on a reshared image, and its engagement now counts toward Original Content Rewards for the original author and the sharer alike.

X has added a Post photo option that lets a user re-share another account's photo with credit built in: long-press the image, tap Post photo, and the reshared post carries an overlay linking back to the original author's profile, Social Media Today reported on October 28, 2026.

The money changes with the credit. Engagement on the reshared image now contributes to the impression counts of both the sharing account and the original creator under Original Content Rewards — the program that pays eligible creators out of X Premium subscription revenue, with payments assessed every two weeks. Until now, impressions generated from posts that included duplicated images have not been eligible for the program at all.

Eligibility still gates the payout: a creator needs an X Premium subscription, at least 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users in the preceding 90 days, and at least 500 verified followers. Inside that gate, though, a good photo can now earn twice — once when it is posted, and again every time someone else reshares it with credit.

From the crate: X — credit that pays both sides is the right shape for a reshare. Keep the overlay on every format, not just photos, and the original maker stops being the one person a viral copy leaves out.
