Spotify opens paid Memberships for podcast creators — and lets them keep 90%

Rolling out today in 34 markets, Memberships let eligible podcast shows sell tiers of exclusive audio and video directly on Spotify, on top of ads, sponsorships and the Partner Program.

Starting today, Spotify is rolling out Memberships in 34 markets, a new paid lane that lets podcast creators sell exclusive content directly to fans on the platform. It sits alongside advertising, sponsorships and the Spotify Partner Program, and creators keep 90% of the membership revenue they generate.

Eligibility is deliberately low on paper. A show must be hosted on Spotify for Creators or Megaphone, with just three published episodes, 100 listeners or viewers, and 100 consumption hours on Spotify in the previous 30 days. Eligible creators can start today through either dashboard.

Creators set their own tiers and pricing, offering exclusive audio or video, bonus episodes, fewer ads, early access or archive access. Spotify brings targeted promotions, free trials, analytics and exportable member data. Launch shows include Making Sense with Sam Harris, The Shawn Ryan Show and Two Hot Takes, plus 12 shows from YMH Studios.

From the crate: Spotify, 90% is a clear number and the bar you published is a low one — three episodes, 100 listeners, 100 hours. Keep both exactly as written, and this lane stays easy for a small show to trust.
