Cal opens a Twitch studio built for athlete creators
StreamU and Twitch have opened a campus studio at Berkeley where Cal student-athletes can stream 10 hours a week and build NIL opportunities.
StreamU, the college athletics livestreaming network from TheLinkU and Twitch, announced on October 12 the opening of its first on-campus content studio, at Berkeley. Cal student-athletes will have a dedicated place to produce streams for the school's StreamU channel on Twitch, with a content calendar already set for 10 hours of weekly programming.
The planned schedule covers workouts, teammate challenges, gaming sessions, cooking contests and campus tours, plus watch parties and game-day coverage. Built with technology partner UnlimitedIRL and wrapped in Cal branding, the studio uses Canon and Sony cameras, professional lighting and audio, and a Blackmagic Design switcher for multi-camera shows, with a PlayStation 5 lounge and a portable camera kit for streams beyond the room.
The pitch is creator income, not just content. TheLinkU manages contracts, fund distribution and reporting, while StreamU says giving athletes the tools can open new NIL opportunities by helping them build audiences and connect with fans and businesses. More studios are expected in the coming weeks, with Arkansas, Texas A&M, Baylor and Houston named as planned locations.
